The decline of oil

Environmental justice is as much about social justice as it is about the physical environment. From an environmental justice perspective, opposition to polluting industries is not just about issues like climate change. It is also about the future of communities that may currently rely on such industries for jobs.

Currently, many people may defend the oil industry, coal-fired power stations, aviation and other industries that rely heavily on fossil fuels, on the basis that they provide jobs. But within 30 years, as fossil fuels become increasingly scarce, it will decimate these jobs and communities, unless we start adapting to a ‘green economy‘ and ‘green jobs’ now.
