Whatever benefits industry can bring to a local community, whatever the wider economic advantages might be, and whatever needs that industry might fulfil, there can be tremendous personal costs for some individuals. Some argue that it is inevitable that some individuals and communities have to lose out for a ‘greater good’. Others will argue that we cannot have true environmental justice unless communities, and the individuals that make up those communities, are protected.
