According to NGO Capacity Global, pollution in the UK disproportionately impacts on urban communities, and within those urban communities, on ethnic minority and low income groups.

However, the massive expansion of aviation, and the very nature of the industry itself, means that it is not just marginalised groups that are feeling the impacts. More and more communities – rich and poor – are finding themselves under noisy Heathrow flight paths.

So environmental justice is not just about poverty and exclusion. Any community can potentially fall victim to a local or global environmental injustice.
