A united community


Campaigning and activism is often about lone voices or minorities seeking justice against a prevailing policy or ideology. For this reason, activists are often perceived as subversive and anti-authoritarian.

But sometimes radical ideas cease to be radical. The opposition to the Third Runway was so widespread that it became mainstream, even amongst those who had supported previous expansion projects at Heathrow.

As well as destroying 700 homes, the Third Runway would have led to the demolition of Heathrow Primary School in Sipson. Local resident, Tracy Howard (right), who has two children at the school, joined the anti-expansion campaign.
